Fieldwork

This webpage provides an overview of fieldwork activities relevant to the BIOPOLE project in the Arctic and Antarctic.

Completed or ongoing fieldwork can be viewed on the maps accessible via the two icons below. The maps are a harmonised view showing in a similar way at both polar regions fieldwork efforts that are of interest to BIOPOLE, where the BIOPOLE members either lead the efforts (red points), participate in the fieldwork (blue points) or are users of the data generated as part of other projects (green points). All projects that contributed with their fieldwork activity are displayed on the maps and are also listed in the tables at the bottom of the page.

Each point on the map represents a sampling effort location collecting samples of one or several specified type, such as zooplankton, phytoplankton, nutrients, isotopes of oxygen, silica or physical oceanography (CTD – Conductivity, Temperature, Depth). All data points can be filtered by the sample type or the project that generated them. Activities that are ongoing (as opposed to completed) or relate to moorings only can also be filtered out.

New field activities at either polar region can be reported using the BIOPOLE fieldwork template provided below. The completed template can be sent to biopole@bas.ac.uk.
